Zoraya Ter Beek, a 28-year-old woman from the Netherlands, will undergo euthanasia in May due to severe mental health challenges.

Ter Beek has stated that she has struggled with depression, autism, and borderline personality disorder throughout her life.

After doctors informed Ter Beek that there were no additional treatment options available, she made the decision to pursue euthanasia, a legal option in the Netherlands.

Despite having a boyfriend and pets, Ter Beek’s life will voluntarily come to an end in May 2024.

Zoraya Ter Beek's decision to pursue euthanasia has sparked a global conversation about mental health and the right to die. She has been open about her journey, sharing her experiences with the world. Her story has highlighted the increasing number of individuals choosing euthanasia to end their lives due to mental health issues.

Ter Beek's life, on the surface, appears ideal. She lives in a nice house in the Netherlands, has financial stability, two cats, and a loving boyfriend. However, her mental health struggles have overshadowed these aspects of her life. She once dreamt of becoming a psychiatrist, but after her psychologist told her she would never get better, she began her journey seeking assisted suicide.

The procedure for her euthanasia will take place at her home. A doctor will first administer a sedative, followed by a drug to stop her heart. After her death, a special committee will verify the circumstances of her death and formally declare it to be legal. Ter Beek does not have much family and so has requested no funeral. Instead, her boyfriend will scatter her ashes after her cremation.

In 2018, 6-month-old Jaxon Hunter died in 2018 at a daycare after a 10-year-old girl allegedly dropped him.  The girl told authorities she panicked after dropping Jaxon, and then she began stomping on his head when he began to cry. Initially, the girl faced charges of first-degree intentional homicide, as per the guidelines for individuals aged 10 or older, and was placed in a secure detention center.  Subsequently, the case was transferred from adult court to juvenile court and results of future rulings were not made public.
