Mona Mahmudnizhad ‎, September 10, 1965 – June 18, 1983) was an Iranian Baháʼí who, in 1983 (together with nine other Baháʼí women) was sentenced to death and hanged in Shiraz, Iran.


She was accused of being a member of the Baháʼí Faith. The official charges ranged from "misleading children and youth",



 to being a "Zionist" (because the Baháʼí World Centre is located in Israel The non profit Mona Foundation focusing on girl's education was named after her in 2001. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mona_Mahmudnizhad

The soldier, despite orders to prevent anyone from crossing, bravely helped the boy through the barbed wire. Unfortunately, he was caught by his superior officer, and his fate remains unknown.  The boy ended up on the opposite side of the wall from his parents due to the overnight separation of families caused by the division of sectors. His father, visiting relatives in West Germany, decided that the boy should be with his mother and had him lifted across the fence by the soldier.

In 2007, US Navy SEAL Mike Day survived being shot 27 times by al-Qaeda militants in his legs, arms, abdomen, buttocks, and scrotum, and was knocked out by a grenade.  Mike was part of a 22-member assault team tasked with striking an al-Qaeda cell responsible for shooting down several Marine helicopters. Mike was the first through the door and was immediately met with a hail of bullets by terrorists firing AK-47s, an M-4, and pistols.  Mike was hit and fell into the 10-square-foot room.  Miraculously, Mike awoke to find the remaining enemies firing at his regrouping comrades and remarkably, he not only survived but also managed to eliminate all four militants and later walked away unaided after regaining consciousness. He left the Navy in 2010 after 21 years of service. He went on to represent Wounded Warriors, and spent the rest of his life advocating for veterans. He unfortunately passed away in March 2023. Mohamed Abukar Ibrahim, 48, was stoned to death by militants from the Hizb Al-Islam group in Afgoye, district Somalia, in 2009 Stoning is a form of execution by torture where the individual who throws the deadly stone cannot be identified. In some countries, those sentenced to stoning, or “lapidation” as it is also called, are buried in a hole and covered with soil (men up to their waists; women to a line above their breasts), according to Article 102 of the Islamic Penal Code. A selected group then executes the alleged adulterers using rocks and sticks. Those able to escape the hole during stoning can be freed, according to Islamic law, a feat that is much more difficult for women than for men because so much more of their body is covered during lapidation. Stoning is considered a form of community justice and has its fair share of critics both among human rights groups and Islamic clerics.
