Germans honestly believed, corpses buried beneath them, or it may have been the state of the drains. It may simply have been the projection of a short but stormy past into the greyness of that particularly uninviting present.

This man came into my yard a couple of hours ago and offered to cut my grass for a certain price I didn't have. A few minutes ago, I hear a loud noise outside of my house. I opened the door and noticed that he was cutting my grass. I went running out to him and yelled for him to stop... he shook his head no. He told me that he saw my kids playing in the yard and was worried about snakes being in the grass and biting them because the grass was too tall. I again told him to stop because I couldn’t pay him. He said that he didn’t need to be paid, he had grandchildren and that he hoped someone would look after them in the same way. I was brought to tears. I hugged him. We talked about different struggles we’ve had in life and he told me that this is what the news doesn’t report. He’d been dead for 30 YEARS but his family had kept it secret. Sogen Kato was born on July 22, 1899, and died at the age of 81 in 1980. But Mr Kato's family failed to tell anyone and kept his mummified body in his bed. When officials tried to check up on him, fa mily members repeatedly chased them away. In some countries, those sentenced to stoning, or “lapidation” as it is also called, are buried in a hole and covered with soil (men up to their waists; women to a line above their breasts), according to Article 102 of the Islamic Penal Code. A selected group then executes the alleged adulterers using rocks and sticks. Those able to escape the hole during stoning can be freed, according to Islamic law, a feat that is much more difficult for women than for men because so much more of their body is covered during lapidation.
