On November 24, 2009, John Edward Jones tragically lost his life in the Nutty Putty cave following a harrowing 28-hour ordeal.   While exploring with his brother Josh, Jones accidentally entered a constricted tunnel, mistaking it for another tight passage known as the "Birth Canal."    He became lodged upside-down in a 10 by 18 inches (25 by 46 cm) opening approximately 400 feet (120 m) from the cave's entrance.   Jones was trapped in a position resembling a hook, where any movement could cause severe injury due to the unnatural angles of his body.   A large team of rescuers responded, employing an advanced rope-and-pulley system in their efforts to save him. However, the operation faced a setback when a pulley malfunctioned during the extraction process.   Jones eventually suffered cardiac arrest, a consequence of the prolonged stress on his body from being in an inverted and compressed position.   The rescuers, realizing the high risk invol

Saudi Arabia executes 81 men in one day, the biggest mass execution in decades A Saudi Arabia flag flies on the top of the country's consulate building in Istanbul.  Saudi Arabia executed 81 men on Saturday, including seven Yemenis and one Syrian, for terrorism and other offenses including holding “deviant beliefs,” authorities said, in the biggest mass execution in decades. The number dwarfed the 67 executions reported in the kingdom in all of 2021 and the 27 in 2020. “These individuals, totaling 81, were convicted of various crimes including murdering innocent men, women and children,” the interior ministry said in a statement. “Crimes committed by these individuals also include pledging allegiance to foreign terrorist organizations, such as ISIS (Islamic State), al Qaeda and the Houthis,” it added. Some traveled to conflict zones to join “terrorist organizations,” the statement said. The ministry did not say how the executions were carried out. The me

The devastating story behind the "Easter eggs for Hitler" photograph, 1945 Two black American soldiers with special artillery ammo for Hitler. Photo was taken on March 10, 1945, during the Battle of Remagen. The two men in this photograph are Technical Sergeant William E. Thomas and Private First Class Joseph Jackson of the 333rd Field Artillery Battalion, but at the time of the photograph were part of the 969th Artillery Battalion. Scrawling such messages on artillery shells in World War II was one way in which artillery soldiers could humorously express their dislike of the enemy. The 333rd Field Artillery Battalion suffered tremendous casualties in the early stages of the Battle of the Bulge in late 1944, being overrun on December 17. The survivors ended up in the 969th Artillery Battalion for the rest of the battle, where they provided vital fire support for the 101st Airborne Division during the siege of Bastogne. The sad part of course is that

Iraqi PM orders ‘immediate’ execution of all ‘terrorists condemned to death’ A handout picture released by the Iraqi Justice Ministry on Friday shows alleged ISIS fighters ahead of their execution.  Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi has called for the “immediate” execution of all convicted “terrorists” on death row after the bodies of eight members of the country’s security forces thought to have killed by ISIS were found earlier this week. Abadi ordered “the immediate implementation of the fair punishment of terrorists condemned to death whose sentences have passed the decisive stage,” his office said in a statement Thursday. Hundreds of prisoners have been sentenced to death by Iraqi courts since Mosul and the surrounding area were reclaimed from ISIS, Reuters reported in April. “The statistics coming from the criminal courts show that 815 people have gone on trial and that 212 were sentenced to death. A four-star general’s personal photos of the battlefields of France and Germany from World War II are being published for the first time, shedding new light on the bloodshed and violence that darkened Europe during the Nazi era. General Charles Day Palmer spent most of the war fighting on the Western Front, and took photos of the bombed-out cities and lifeless bodies he witnessed along his European march. After sitting in his personal files for years, the photos were shared for the first time by his grandson Daniel Palmer earlier this month, on the website Argunners.com. A woman from the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou shouts before being taken to be executed / Reuters.  A rare glimpse into China's busy death row A series of 8-year-old photographs is currently making the rounds on the internet in China. CBS News correspondent Celia Hatton reports that, despite their age, the death row images are shedding new light on a country that executes far more people than any other country in the world. The photos shocked many across China: Women in their final 12 hours on death row. Taken in China's central Wuhan province in 2003, few saw these images until recently, as they spread across China's internet, showing convicted drug traffickers preparing for death. It's incredibly rare to see inside China's prisons, not to mention personal photos like the ones from death row. China is thought to sentence more people to death than any other country, but the real number of people actually executed every year is considered a state

First black to execute using portable electric chair. The saddest story from-history Willie Mae Bragg

First black to execute using portable electric chair. The saddest story from-history Willie Mae Bragg Was sentenced to death for murdering a pharmacist in 1939. On the day of his execution, he was strapped in, and as the current went through him - he went unkilled. His final cries were for the strap to be removed. After surviving, he then filed a lawsuit claiming he was safe from execution as they had already executed him and that he simply hadn’t died. It was an ominous case. Most of the executions in 1940’s Mississippi (one of the most racist states in the US) were of black people. His appeal failed and he was executed the following year by a portable Electric Chair that had been put into use They typically don’t serve “the last meal” on the day of the execution as people can rarely eat. They have also begun putting spending limits on last meal requests, $30-$50, as many death row inmates have ordered King’s feasts, only for them not to eat a single bite

Fire Mummies - The Smoked Human Remains of the Kabayan Caves

Image
Mummification of the deceased is a well-known practice from ancient times. Most notably, the Egyptians utilized a mummification process that led to today’s cliché image of a deceased body covered in gauzy wrappings. The discovery of mummified remains in several caves in the Philippines represents a different type of mummy – the fire mummy. Found in caves in the town of Kabayan, in the Benguet province of the Philippines, the fire Kabayan cave mummies are human remains that were preserved through a lengthy dehydration and smoking process. These well- preserved remains have given researchers insight into a unique mummification process, and into the tribal people who engaged in those methods. The Intricate Mummification Process: From Salty Beverages to Tobacco Smoke The Kabayan mummies are also known as the Ibaloi mummies, Benguet mummies, or Fire mummies. They were located in many caves in the area, including Timbak, Bangao, Tenongchol, Naapay, and Opdas. Smoking is not a
