Charged With Killing His Family, Colorado Man Turns Blame on Wife

The Colorado man who is accused of killing his pregnant wife and two daughters before dumping them at an oil work site told the police that it was his wife who strangled the children — and that he strangled her out of rage, according to an affidavit for an arrest warrant released on Monday.


The man, Christopher Watts, 33, had been having an affair with a co-worker, the police said, and had told his wife he wanted to separate during an emotional conversation in the middle of the night on Aug. 13.
Afterward, he told the police, he had looked at the family’s baby monitor and seen his wife strangling their daughter Celeste, 3. Their other daughter, Bella, 4, was lying on her bed and appeared blue, he said. After that, he strangled his wife, he told the police.

Afuna, Japan. 1945. A group of Australian War Correspondents visited a prisoner of war (POW) camp and found shocking conditions of cruelty. The camp was about fifteen miles out of Yokosuka Naval Base, and the Corespondents were the first to find the POWs. The camp was not registered (with the International Red Cross) and all the 103 occupants, comprising ninety eight Americans, four British and one New Zealander, were reported dead some time ago.  The men had been cruelly beaten and maltreated, but for the past week or two they had better treatment and were given a chance to pick up. American planes had dropped comforts and clothing to them. The Japanese guards who had beaten the men were taken from the camp and replaced by others a week before the occupation. The naked machine gunner hero, during the Second World War, an American pilot was shot down by Japanese anti-aircraft and ended up in the sea near the port of Rabaul. He did not die but was seriously injured. He managed to send out a distress call, which was heard by the US Navy's "Dumbo" rescue unit. The rescue unit's machine gunner didn't think twice. He took off the clothes that would have prevented him from swimming, dived into the water and brought the pilot to safety. Immediately afterwards, still naked, he stood in his position to respond to the fire of the Japanese who were trying to prevent the seaplane from regaining altitude. The photo was taken by Horace Bristol, an American war photographer. His photos have appeared in Time, Fortune, Sunset, National Geographic and Life magazines.
