Context of a Man Falling to His Death at a Utah Park

A 32-year-old man died after he plunged nearly 50 feet from a chair lift at a Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington in Utah on August 14, 2021. People at the park saw him clinging to the chair's safety bar of the chair before he fell.

Lucy Grace Astilla recorded the tragic incident while riding with her husband.

Lucy said, “I thought it was a stunt, or he is a gymnast practicing for ‘American Ninja Warrior,’ rehearsing, but then I noticed he didn’t have any equipment that would save him from a fall.”

When they reached the ride operator, Lucy shouted, "Hello, can you, can you please stop the ride? Someone is hanging down."

Suddenly, the crowd started screaming. The man had fallen from the ride. The police said the fall didn't appear intentional.

The Park's spokesperson said, “No reason to believe there was a malfunction with the ride. The Sky Ride has been operating at Lagoon, without incident at the park since 1974. Every ride in the park undergoes intense safety inspections. This received an inspection Saturday morning.”

He already looks tired and he’s only at the beginning of the ride. That’s awful. Sounds like he probably fell at one of the highest points of the ride.

Here’s the cell phone footage of the man hanging right before he falls
