In February 2023, footage captures the final moments of 85-year-old Gloria Serge's life before she was attacked by a 10-foot alligator while walking her dog at her retirement village in Florida.
The victim’s body was subsequently “recovered” when an alligator wrangler was called in to trap the creature.
Following the tragic incident, the retirement community, Spanish Lakes Fairways, took measures to warn residents about the potential danger of alligators. Signs reading “Beware of Alligators” were erected around the community.
This action was taken 13 months after Gloria Serge’s unfortunate demise, indicating a delayed response from the community management.
In a shocking revelation, it w
as found that the alligator, known to residents as Henry, was a “known nuisance” to Wynne Building Corporation, the owner and operator of the 435-acre Spanish Lakes Fairways.

The lawsuit filed on behalf of Serge’s son William, the manager of her estate, contends that the alligator should have been removed. The filing also states that Wynne neglected to install signs warning of the danger from alligators, which are common throughout Florida.
The family also revealed that Gloria Serge and her small dog, Trooper, were at the water’s edge because Wynne officials had threatened to evict her for walking the animal in front of her home, which is not a designated pet area according to community rules. She had been a resident of the community for more than two decades.
